Testing out new face paints: peacock

I received my face paints order and wanted to try using the new colors, I bought the Fab Ziva blue shimmer, Fab ocean shimmer, tag pearl green, and the blue azure Ben nye magi cake as well as the black. I already had the paradise brilliant dore (gold) but got to try it again. A peacock was the perfect animal to use all of these colors in. Here are the time lapse videos:

Trend setter

I have noticed that the face painting choice of the first kid who sits in my chair, will usually set the trend for the rest. This past weekend the first one was a girl who wanted a dolphin. After she left, I painted probably another five! On the boys side, the popular design was a shark, and I probably did 3-4 of those.

Non traditional

It is refreshing when a little girl wants something other than a butterfly. I love painting butterflies, could paint them with my eyes closed probably, but they are...expected. And pink butterflies? The reason why I have three different shades of pink face paint. So once in a while, when a girl wants batman or Ninjago painted on their face, it is a welcome change!

The one who wants more

In most parties that I do face painting at, I will usually find a little girl or little boy who wants more. More face painting. This usually starts like this, can I have something on this cheek, and something else on the other? When they request a third one, I remind then that there are more kids who want their face painted, so they need to wait and come back when I am done with the rest. And they usually do, like this girl who ended up with probably six different designs, three on the face, and two in each arm. I have heard that ink tattoos can be addictive, and I am of the opinion that on certain kids the same thing happens with face paint!

4 p.m.

4 p.m seems to be a very popular time for parties, and 4:30 p.m. the most requested time for my arrival to one. I got a last minute request for today, because their face painter cancelled on them. I usually shake my head when I hear this. It seems to me that this happens most often with casual face painters, they quote a low price because it is a hobby or past time to them, and as such, they usually not take their party commitments seriously. Thank God I have never had to cancel on a party, perhaps this was a different situation, they got sick or something, who knows. Anyway, I could not help them because I was already booked, however, I was able to help them find someone else and it all worked out! So my 4:30 p.m. party went well, I got to try the new paints and I love them! The only drawback, but it will be easy to be overcome, is that I can feel my face is painted. With Snazaroo, I forgot my face was painted, I would go to a store, wondered why people were staring, and eventually remembering when someone asked if I just came from a party. With these new paints, I am aware of my own face! yet I want to get more. By the way, I like going to parties that have good music, and this one did! It keeps it fun.

New face paints!

I was running low on glitter. As in, I probably only have enough for one more party. Glitter goes a long way, but I was surprised this one bottle had lasted me this long. I had bought some snazaroo glitter gels in the past too. Unfortunately I had trouble applying them on top of paint as it would make the paint run. Maybe I should have looked up the instructions, but they ended up not being used. Eventually the gel dried, so I thought even if I run out of my glitter at a party, I can use is what is left of the gel one as powder glitter. I had a hard time deciding which glitter to buy. I wanted a glitter similar to what I had and that I was running out of, fine glitter in iridescent color, that I could use on any color of face paint. I may have found it on mama clown glitter white fairy dust. I have a party on Saturday and will know for sure. It is finer and sheer than I am used to, so we will see. There is more than glitter on the package I got. I had a case of "I went to the store for this...and came back with all these". And it took me a week to decide what to get. Mainly because I wanted to buy new brands of paint to experiment with, and there are so many choices! so after reading, and researching and reading some more, I decided to go with Paradise for my metal paints, and with Diamond FX for my white and black line work. I cannot wait to try them!

Black flower

I am usually too busy at festivals to take pictures, but when this little girl wanted a black version of one of the flowers on my book, for cheek art, I had to stop and take a picture. The picture does not quite capture the effect the glitter had over a dark background, but believe me, it looked very cool
